Comfort food? What’s Candida diet
I am convinced that every problem or difficulty in life has a meaning and a message for us. When we get the message, we also get an important gift that makes us healthier and more whole. If you are plagued by the fat and calories your comfort food brings to your body, then you are a prime candidate for learning its message.
This is how you do it. First, you will need to bring that particular food to mind and notice how it makes you feel when you eat it. I like to write this information down so that I can refer to it later.
Make a list of those feelings. For instance, pasta may make you feel peaceful, less anxious, happy, nurtured, safe, child-like or even loved. The task is to identify the particular feelings that the food produces. Then you are ready for the next step.
Look at those feelings and ask a central question: “Why do I need food to feel this way?” You need to think deeply about this one. It is normal and desirable to feel safe and peaceful and nurtured or loved. But why do you need to go to food for the feeling? What has happened in your life that makes these feelings so hard to find or experience another way? (This is an extremely important question.)
By definition, comfort food provides comfort, emotional comfort. Why can’t you get it without eating? You certainly need and deserve comfort. It is a normal and necessary part of human existence. Comfort is good. Why then don’t you have enough of it?
Once you begin to ask these questions, you are on the track of the message in your comfort food. Every time you feel a need to eat your special comfort treat, you are being given an opportunity to discover the valuable message contained in it.
It is trying to get your attention and guide you to an important inner truth. That truth will change your life when you discover it.
Why don’t you have enough comfort in your life, and what can you do to get more of it without eating?
Here is a fact: Your comfort food does not really work long term. It only provides a momentary hit and then you feel unhappy again and need more comfort and then you have to eat again. The comfort food is really a legal drug that makes you high for a while, then leaves you empty and needing another hit. Cocaine, crack, heroin, comfort food, they are all essentially the same.
If you will take the time to look carefully at the deeper meaning of your comfort food, you will discover important information about your needs. Then you have a choice. You can decide to go on eating, or you can face the problem and do something constructive and non fattening.
Question: What would you be doing or feeling if you were not eating your comfort food? Would you feel empty, lonely, hurt, sad, angry, confused, anxious? OK, lets say that these feelings are actually all yours. What do you need to do that really deals with their causes?
Isn’t it time you acted on your own behalf instead of burying yourself in food that ultimately brings you the opposite of comfort?
Wouldn’t your life be much better if you decided to finally take that action that you know you need to take?
Remember, this is your life. It is not owned by your spouse or parents or children or employer. It is your life. You need comfort and you deserve comfort and you need it from a healthier source than food. You probably already have a beginning idea about what to do next to move in the right direction.
Why don’t you go ahead and act? This is your life and you don’t know how much of it is left. Make the most of it. Find the message in your comfort food and do something with it today. Whatever you decide to do, I am sure it will not be fattening.
